There's plenty of buzz about the anticipated theatrical and cultural additions to the "Pan Jazz 2010: Folklore - Tales of the Caribbean," coming to Jazz at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in Manhattan on June 19.
This year's inclusion of the innovative rapso-style performance and visual arts collaborative 3 Canal and works by award-winning Trinidad Carnival designer Brian MacFarlane to the sixth annual concert will complement pan jazz performances by steelpan composer-arranger Andre White, jazz pannist Leon (Foster) Thomas, steelpan musician Freddy Harris Jr., trumpeter Etienne Charles, saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart, drummer Brannen Temple and bassist Ben Williams.
And former Miss Universe Wendy Fitzwilliam serving as emcee is icing on the cake for the show, which has been enjoying success internationally in recent years.
"We took the show to London last year, and we got a very good response," said Ralph Ramsey, of Abstract Entertainment.
The June 19 affair begins at 4:30 p.m. with a complimentary pre-concert Caribbean festival featuring cuisine from some of the city's finest Caribbean eateries - Negril Village in Manhattan and Sugarcane, Miss Mamie's Spoonbread Too and Tropical Paradise restaurants and Allan's Bakery, in Brooklyn.
The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Jazz at Lincoln Center, 60th St. and Broadway. Tickets are $45, $55 and $65. For ticket purchases and information, visit panjazz.com, or call (516) 802-4129. And ask about the VIP post-concert meet-and-greet with the performers.
